Former Reading striker Michail Antonio has been banned from driving for six months after a court found him guilty of failing to provide driver information. The offence relates to his Lamborghini Urus being involved in an incident on Pall Mall in London at 12.38am on November 5 last year.

Antonio, who spent four years with the Royals between 2008 and 2012, told Westminster Magistrates' Court he was not driving the car at the time. He said he was visiting his children in Manchester and had loaned the vehicle to a contact who arranges luxury car rentals. The court heard he did not receive the initial police letter requesting the driver's identity, learning of the case only when a criminal charge notice arrived months later.

"I was in shock," Antonio said in court. "How can I be charged with something I haven't done?"

His girlfriend, Sunita Bains, told the court she dealt with post sent to their home in Beaconsfield and did not believe the original police correspondence had arrived. Despite Antonio's belief that details were later provided, magistrates ruled he had failed to comply with the legal requirement to identify the driver.

The conviction added six penalty points to his licence. Antonio already had six points from a July 2025 conviction for driving without insurance, triggering an automatic six-month disqualification under the totting-up procedure. He was also ordered to pay a £1,000 fine, £650 in prosecution costs and a £400 victim surcharge.

Antonio is due to stand trial next year over a separate allegation of failing to respond to West Midlands Police regarding a speeding offence involving the same vehicle. The 36-year-old Jamaican international, who made over 30 appearances for Reading, joined Watford earlier this month after a spell in Qatar. He is best known for becoming West Ham United's record Premier League goalscorer.

His former club Reading are currently 14th in League One, with seven points from their opening five games. The Royals host 16th-placed Notts County next, looking to improve their standings position after recent defeats to Brentford and Cambridge United. The team's recent form shows they have scored an average of 1.4 goals per game while conceding 1.6, and they have accumulated 7 points from a possible 15.
