Tom McIntyre's search for a new club continues after Blackpool release Reading academy graduate Tom McIntyre is still searching for a new club after being released by Blackpool following a trial. The 27-year-old defender, who made over 100 appearances for the Royals, has faced a challenging few years with loan spells and injuries.

What happened during McIntyre's trial at Blackpool? McIntyre recently played 45 minutes in a friendly against Mill Farm for Blackpool, his first action since a hamstring injury ended his time at Aberdeen in March. However, Blackpool manager Ian Evatt decided to release McIntyre along with fellow trialist Emmanuel Okunowo. Evatt explained that the trialists were not physically ready for the intense environment at Blackpool.

McIntyre's journey since leaving Reading After leaving Reading, McIntyre joined Portsmouth for a £75,000 move in the 2023/24 season. He made 14 appearances for Pompey before going on loan to Charlton Athletic and Bradford City. His loan at Bradford was terminated in January, and he later joined Aberdeen on a short-term contract until the end of the 2025/26 season. However, a hamstring injury in March ruled him out for the rest of the season.

What comes next for McIntyre? With Reading currently sitting second in League One with 0 points, McIntyre's next move will be closely watched by fans. The Royals' next fixture is against Cambridge United at home on 20th February 2027. McIntyre, who is still looking for a new club, will be hoping to find a team where he can regain his form and contribute to their success.
