Reading FC manager Leam Richardson has emphasized the need for squad depth as the club finalizes its summer recruitment. With four new signings already secured, Richardson aims to strengthen the team further before the transfer window closes.
What happened in the transfer window so far?
Reading has been active in the transfer market, bringing in winger Kyreece Lisbie from Colchester United, defender Udoka Godwin-Malife from Burton Albion, and forward Jacob Brown as a free agent after his departure from Luton Town. Midfielder Josh Stokes has also joined on loan from Bristol City. The club sold Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan to Danish side AC Horsens for a reported £640,000.

Richardson highlighted the importance of squad depth, especially after a high turnover of players last season. "We've had a lot of turnover in the last few years," he said. "In the summer, it's important that we come out of this window better than we went into it." The manager believes the current squad has quality but lacks the numbers needed for consistency.

Conor Masterson, a 28-year-old defender, recently trialed with Reading but is unlikely to join due to contract offers elsewhere. The club is also exploring a potential loan deal for left-sided defender Lee Buchanan from Birmingham City. With the new season approaching, Richardson is focused on finalizing the squad.
