Reading FC have accepted a €750,000 bid from Danish Superliga newcomers AC Horsens for forward Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan, confirming the 23-year-old will leave the Madejski Stadium after seven seasons in Royals colours.

Ehibhatiomhan did not feature in Reading’s 2-0 pre-season win over Woking on Saturday, prompting immediate speculation over his future. Leam Richardson, the first-team manager, confirmed after the match that a bid had been accepted and the player would be departing. “We’ve accepted a bid for Kelvin,” Richardson said. “He’ll leave and then, hopefully, we can turn our attention indoors as well.”

The 23-year-old joined Reading’s academy at 16 and made 130 senior appearances, scoring 27 goals across all competitions. His final season saw him contribute six goals in League One, as Reading finished 12th with 63 points from 46 games - four points clear of the relegation places but 40 adrift of Lincoln City at the summit.

The bid from AC Horsens, who secured promotion to the Danish Superliga this spring, ends months of uncertainty over the striker’s future. Richardson added: “Once he goes past a certain number, it becomes a club decision. Going into his last year of contract, whether you’re going to sign another year or then get the value of the player.”

Ehibhatiomhan’s exit follows a difficult campaign in which Reading shipped 60 goals - the fourth-worst defensive record in League One - and lost their last two matches, including a 1-0 reverse at home to Blackpool on 2 May 2026. His departure leaves a void up front as the club prepares for the new campaign with indoor training sessions already under way.

What comes next for Reading and Ehibhatiomhan?

The Royals now turn their focus to the indoor schedule and finalising the squad for League One’s return. Richardson hinted at further business, saying: “The club itself, once he goes past that number, it’s a club decision and the fans will accept the bid and he moves on with our best wishes.”

For Ehibhatiomhan, the move represents a first crack at European football alongside academy graduates Andre Garcia, Michael Olise and Nelson Abbey. AC Horsens, who finished fourth in the Danish 1st Division before winning the promotion play-offs, will provide a stiffer test than Reading’s pre-season opponents.
