Former Reading Captain Completes League One Move
Andy Yiadom, the former Reading captain, has completed a move to AFC Wimbledon on a short-term contract. The 34-year-old Ghana international has agreed a deal running until January 2027 after spending several weeks training with Johnnie Jackson's squad.
Why it Matters for Reading
Yiadom's departure from Reading marks the end of an eight-year association with the Berkshire club. He made 253 appearances in all competitions for the Royals, having initially joined them from Barnsley in 2018, and was later appointed club captain.
What Comes Next?
Yiadom's experience and versatility can be particularly useful during the opening months of the season. He has operated in several roles during a senior career which began outside the EFL with Hayes & Yeading United and Braintree Town. He joined Barnet in 2012 and went on to make 181 appearances in all competitions for the Bees, helping them win promotion back to the Football League in 2015.
Yiadom was named the Royals' Player of the Season in 2021/22 and captained the club during some particularly difficult periods both on and off the pitch. He also brings international pedigree, having represented Ghana at senior level after previously playing for England C. His experience includes appearances at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Current Form
AFC Wimbledon currently sit 17th in League One, with 0 points from 1 game, and a recent form of L. They are 3 points behind leaders Huddersfield and have a goal difference of -1. Their next fixture is against Mansfield Town away on 2027-02-09.
Yiadom's leadership could be every bit as valuable as his ability on the pitch, particularly for a side looking to establish itself at the level. His arrival gives Wimbledon a player with extensive Championship and League One experience, and he is ready to give his all for the team.
Image Prompt
A photorealistic image of an anonymous Ghanaian player in his mid-30s, with a rugged build and a stern expression, wearing a black and white striped shirt with a smooth, unbroken fabric, and a pair of black shorts with a subtle sheen. The player is standing in a dimly lit stadium, with a single floodlight casting a warm glow on his face. The image is shot with a 85mm f/1.4 lens, with a shallow depth of field and a rim light effect that accentuates the player's facial features.
