Leam Richardson, manager of Reading Football Club, praised the performances of his younger players and senior squad after the team's victory over Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL Trophy. The match saw Reading score all their penalties in the shootout, replicating their success against Bromley in the Carabao Cup. Richardson highlighted the importance of proper preparation, stating, 'Yes, and long may that continue. Preparation has been very good in the moments. I think if you prepare properly, you get that little bit of luck because it meets within the preparation.'
The manager also commended the performances of academy stars Emmanuel Osho and Ashqar Ahmed, who played on the right-hand side. Osho was a constant threat, creating problems for Wycombe left-back Taylor Allen, while Ahmed used his pace and dribbling skills to create chances and overlap. Richardson noted, 'I thought they were excellent. Again, Osho and Ahmed have been with us every day since we came back this summer. They've obviously been away with us [Spain pre-season camp], been heavily involved, taking the information in well.'
Several first-team players were also involved, including Randell Williams, Charlie Savage, Haydon Roberts, Paddy Lane, Jeriel Dorsett, Liam Fraser, and Jacob Brown, who all started the game. Daniel Kyerewaa came on as a substitute in the second half. Four senior players were involved partly due to the rules of the EFL Trophy, which stipulate that at least four outfield first-teamers must start in the fixture. The other four players, Daniel Kyerewaa, Paddy Lane, Jacob Brown, and Haydon Roberts, were involved to increase their match readiness ahead of Saturday's fixture against Wimbledon.
Richardson expressed satisfaction with the senior players' performances, saying, 'I thought they were excellent. Very professional, which I expect to be honest, it's a given. All the senior players, from Jeriel to Liam, Savage, Paddy, Jacob, Randell. I thought they were really very good with the younger players as well. I thought they set really strong examples from the first meeting about the game yesterday to prepare for it. All the way through to the finalists, I thought they were excellent.'
