Reading Football Club is set to introduce safe standing at its SCL Stadium in time for the start of the 2026/27 season. The club plans to convert space currently used for about 1,000 seats in the stadium's South Stand into a safe standing area. According to Joe Jacobson, the Royals' co-chief executive, the introduction of safe standing is part of major renovations aimed at creating a better atmosphere in the stadium. Jacobson said the club has listened to fans who have been asking for safe standing. The system will feature steel rails forming a barrier to the row of seats in front, allowing fans to stand during matches while also having the option to sit down without affecting their view. The League One club is pushing for promotion and could be playing in the Championship by August. Jacobson emphasized the importance of providing the best experience possible for fans. The club is also seeking to hold other events at the stadium, with details still being finalized. Jacobson mentioned that the club has hosted big acts like Elton John in the past and wants to make the stadium a hub for the local community.
